Tucson Arizona’s Pre-Arrest Deflection Program Webinar
On November 21, 2024, the Commission of African American Affairs Justice Pillar in partnership with the Pastor Center for Politics and Public Service at Arizona State University, hosted a webinar presented by Dr. Josephine D. Korchmaros, Director of the Southwest Institute for Research on Women at the University of Arizona. The webinar explored the Tucson Police Department’s Deflection Program, a pre-arrest police-behavioral health initiative addressing opioid and substance misuse, and shared findings from a comprehensive evaluation on cost savings and program effectiveness in reducing substance misuse, criminal activity, and mental health challenges.
